12 Aug A picturesque trail that passes by Loutra rental house
Tenos island has a network of many hiking trails that pass through beautiful areas of the island… small waterfalls, creeks, oak groves, watermills and much more.
Tinos Trails has mapped some of them in detail.
One such trail passes by Loutra village where the rental house is: Agapi – Sklavochori – Skalados – Koumaros. The trail is called M4.
Trail M4 links along a circular route most of the points of interest in the vicinity of Kato Meri, and particularly the well-kept catholic villages of Tinos. The trail begins from the village of Volax, known for its famous basket-weavers as well as for its location, since it is the only village in Tinos which is totally built within the granite rock formations. At first, one reaches the landmark of Griza with the lush vegetation and the bubbling waters following an easily accessible path that goes through the imposing granite rock formations and the old croplands. From there one can set forth for the village of Agapi. On the opposite slope, among the never-ending dovecots, the path will take you to the long-abandoned settlement of Monastiria where remnants of the houses still stand to prove to the passersby the long-lost vivacity of the area. The village Perastra follows with its stone bridges and it actually demarcates the beginning of the trail along the stretch of Megalo Potami. From there on, parallel to the stream, the trail approaches the village of Loutra, an area celebrated for the Monasteries of the Ursulines and the Jesuits. The village Loutra is connected with the village of Xinara, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Naxos and Tinos, via a wide, well-built trail. The trail, once more, will go uphill to Xompourgo until it reaches the picturesque village of Koumaro and from there back to Volax.
